  • Adam: Ty Lawson’s numbers are way down in the short space of time since returning from the All-Star break. Between his missed practice and the numerous trade rumors at the deadline, what type of future do you see for Lawson in Denver?

Kevin: Ty Lawson is clearly the Nuggets best player, but he has by far had the worst season off the court of his career. You mentioned the missed practice, but Lawson’s DUI was following a team sponsored event (those Nuggets PR guy’s must be having a fun year, though!).

Even though the former Tar Heel has been on the wrong side of the news, the Nuggets have backed him, and he’s shown a desire to remain in Denver. After the missed practice he instagramed a picture with the comment, “I’m a Nugget until the day I die.” And even though the rumor mill had Lawson’s name come up around the trade deadline – the local media made it pretty clear the Nuggets had no plans of getting rid of the point guard.

So, I still believe (and the Nuggets believe) that Ty Lawson can be a big piece of the rebuild, and a bright spot on a playoff team. Even with the recent slide, he’s still averaging the third most assists per game in the league (just 0.3 assists behind top-ranked John Wall). That’s a crazy number considering how bad the Nuggets shoot from the floor.
