O.J. Mayo – Traded

O.J. Mayo had a terrific bounce-back season for the Bucks and was really solid in the playoffs, which means it’s the perfect time to deal him. His contract isn’t crazy and a lot of teams trying to make a run at a title next season could use an extra scoring guard. Teams will be interested in Juice this offseason. Here’s why Milwaukee should try to make a deal.

1. Will this player still be productive in a few years, when the Bucks will be looking to contend for a title?

Yes. Juice is 27 years old and will still be a solid scorer when he’s 30, although he may be attempting less crazy pull-up jumpers.

2. Will this player’s salary prevent Milwaukee from re-signing Khris Middleton or adding other players in free agency, either this season or down the line?

Yes. Mayo makes more than any other Buck at $8 million next season, and that kind of space is valuable to getting quality free agents at bargain prices before the salary cap raises in a few seasons.

3. Could this player’s roster spot be better used on a different available player?

Yes. Trading Juice could result in Milwaukee snagging a quality draft pick or be part of a move by the Bucks to dump a different contract as well, just to take on a few cheaper players. That kind of flexibility would be great for Milwaukee and give the Bucks the best possible chance to snag a good, young free agent.
