Chicago Bulls: 1976-77

We have just seen the Bucks play out a great series with the Chicago Bulls, where Milwaukee fought hard in the role of gallant underdog. Indeed, it’s mostly been like that between the the two cities in NBA terms since the Bulls domination of the 90s, but the balance of power across the I-94 didn’t always sit like that.

As the Bucks thrived through the 70s and 80s, the Bulls struggled significantly. This was evidenced no better than by their fluctuations around the middle of that decade.

Having only picked up 24 wins in 1975-76 to prop up the rest of the league, Chicago went 20 better the following year, and at least got to show their worth on the Playoff stage.

Headlined by Artis Gilmore, the Bulls were still missing something though, and they would go on to fall short in their post-season pursuit the following year.

In fact, Chiacgo only made the Playoffs twice across that span of nine years.
