Summer Focus
Of the nine key players in the rotation Mayo has the lowest field goal percentage with a meager 42.2 percent (up from 2013-14’s 40.7). His three point shooting, 35.7 percent, was the lowest percentage of his career.
So that seems like a good place to start–shooting.
Not in the sense that he needs to camp out at the three point line and shoot thousands of shots a night. He’s already good enough to hit most of them. It’s sharpening his shot selection.
So how does one do that? It comes from reviewing game tape. Studying the positions of his teammates on the floor, knowing when to pull up on fast breaks and when to pass it off. Learning the tendencies of his teammates and knowing where to find them…
On second thought, forget it. A thousand three pointers and another thousand pull-up jumpers per day is as good a plan as any.
