Reactions: The Good

  • How sweet it is to be rejoined by John Henson. The fourth-year big man made a huge difference off the bench. Not only did he lead the team in scoring (22), but also provided an emotional lift–actively leaping for loose balls, making smart challenges, and altering shots at the rim. His eleven fourth quarter points helped the Bucks turn a close game into a decisive lead. The Bucks played a strong game, and Henson was the spark.
  • When Jabari Parker is ready to play full minutes, look out. He looked much sharper in his second game back, scoring 6 points on 3-6 shooting. He chased eagerly after loose balls, showed no fear around the rim, and looked like a bottle rocket on this impressive slam.
  • The Bucks first quarter was a real thing of beauty. They hit all five of their first shots while jumping out to a 16-6 advantage. Offensively they pushed the tempo with Tyler Ennis starting in place of MCW. That decision payed dividends as the offense responded to the frenetic pace. By the end of the quarter they held a 30-20 lead on 65% shooting with a 10-0 points off turnovers advantage. In their first five games the Bucks were hardly exciting (save for Giannis’ first half against the Wizards), but with the lid removed from the offense they excelled. Look for the Bucks to match that pace as the season develops.
  • Here’s a prime example of the fast-break offense in motion.
  • Mandatory Giannis Antetokounmpo vine: this time in the form of a stalwart defensive play against Derrick Williams. I could ask Taylor Swift to dinner and not get rejected as hard.
  • For the third straight game the Bucks were in a close contest against an inferior opponent. For the third straight game they pulled out the victory. Come January you would hope the Bucks annihilate teams like the Nets, 76ers, and Knicks. But for now, as short-handed and inexperienced as they are, it’s good to see the Bucks show moxie in critical moments.
