Greivis Vasquez – 5.0 assists per game – 31st in the NBA

This is one of the two categories where, if healthy, Michael Carter-Williams would be the real leading Buck. MCW is averaging 6.8 assists per game, which would tie him with Isaiah Thomas for ninth in the Association. But since he hasn’t played enough so far, Vasquez gets the honor.

This really isn’t a bad result considering Vasquez is a backup. Considering that each team starts a point guard and that most of them aren’t injured like Carter-Williams, this ranking places General Greivis in the top-tier of backup point guards, as far as dishing the rock is concerned.

Aside from Vasquez’ well-documented shooting issues, he’s been quite good in his other duties as a bench guard. He’s only turning the ball over 1.7 times per game to go with all those assists. Only three players above him in the assists leaderboard have fewer turnovers per game–Mo Williams. Matthew Dellavedova and Deron Williams.

Once he gets his shot together, Vasquez should be a perfectly fine bench guard. And that’s all Milwaukee really is asking him to do, anyway. Make some three-pointers, set guys up with good shots and take care of the basketball.
