This is one that seems like a terrible idea right now, but seemed to be the no-brainer at the time. On the morning of the draft, if you were to have checked out mock drafts from Chad Ford or Draft Express there was only one name you would see going to Milwaukee, and that was Karasev.

Karasev was a much hyped Euro prospect prior to the draft, even dubbed as a “19-year-old Russian starlet” by our friends over at Brew Hoop, but much like many other European prospects it has never really worked out for him in the NBA. Right now, Karasev is no more than a deep rotational player on a very bad team.

He seemed like the sensible choice to many though. In his post draft analysis for the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, Charles Gardner in reference to the Russian described why taking Karasev would have been a sensible decision in many ways.

"Playing it safe was a real possibility for the Milwaukee Bucks with the 15th pick in Thursday’s National Basketball Association draft. Get some help for a depleted backcourt."

What a relief it is that when Giannis was still on the board when it became Milwaukee’s turn to pick in reality, John Hammond knew better than what was conventional wisdom at the time.
