AM: Arron Afflalo has been performing well of late, at $8 million, is he the sort of steady veteran role player that was needed to complement some of the Knicks younger raw talent?
SL: I actually wrote about Afflalo earlier this week over on HoopsHabit. He is the PERFECT player for this Knicks team. He can get out and run, shoot, and play solid defense, what more can you want?
Afflalo has gone on record as saying that he wants to finish out his career in New York and I hope Phil Jackson obliges him. Eventually, when Langston Galloway and Jerian Grant are running the backcourt of the Knicks, Afflalo is the perfect guy both to mentor the two, as well as come off the bench to back them up.
He might not be the shooter Ray Allen was, but Afflalo could very easily function as the veteran leader off the bench that Allen was for the Miami Heat Big 3 teams. Every team needs at least one, why not Arron for us? At the least, he has another couple years of solid basketball left in him.
