Milwaukee Bucks Trade Rumors: Greg Monroe To New Orleans?
By Ti Windisch
Why Would The Pelicans Want To Get Better Now?
The Pelicans are currently 20-33. Why would they want to add Monroe now, when their road to the postseason is so tough?
Mostly because of the Brow. Davis is going to be a Pelican for five more seasons after this one–unless he decides otherwise. There’s always ways for a star to wriggle out of a bad situation, should they so choose.
Davis has seemed content in New Orleans so far, but if the team is terrible for the next two to three seasons that could change. Even if he doesn’t force his way out, the Pelicans are burning $20 million Davis seasons each time they suck from here on out for five years.
So despite having a young star locked up, New Orleans really doesn’t have too much time to rebuild. Adding Greg Monroe would be a big boost to the Pelicans right now, and by adding another guard or wing in free agency this summer they could actually be pretty good by next season.
Making Anthony Davis happy is pretty much the main goal for these Pelicans. If he’s not happy, nobody is happy. Adding a true low post monster like Monroe and winning more games now would make the Brow happy, so the Pelicans are interested in doing that.
There’s another aspect to making a big move now. Pelicans GM Dell Demps is in a bit of hot water at the moment. Making a marquee trade right now might just be enough to save his job.
