22. Domantas Sabonis – Power Forward (Gonzaga)

Words by Andrew Snyder

Sabonis’ 2015-16 season: 17.5 PPG, 11.7 RPG, 1.8 APG, 0.5 SPG, 0.7 BPG, 61.8% FG

Sabonis comes from Lithuanian NBA royalty. Domantas Sabonis is the son of former Portland Trail Blazer Arvydas Sabonis, one of the forgotten gems from the late 1990s and early 2000s.

Baby Sabonis is averaging a double-double for Gonzaga as the number two scoring option behind sharpshooter Kyle Wiltjer. He’s a load down low and unlike some of the other prospects I’ve mentioned he does not need to get stronger. He’s plenty strong already.

He’s also a good rebounder and a smooth post scorer. He’s also a good passer, especially out of the high post. He reminds me of a Lithuanian David Lee, which seems like the best long term comparison for him.

He’s probably a better defender than Lee, but he also might be a worse athlete. The lack of athleticism might be Sabonis’ biggest weakness. He’s definitely good enough to carve out a career in the NBA, but he’s unlikely to be a star or even a starter.
