NBA Draft 2016: BTBP Big Board 1.0
By Adam McGee
27. Deyonta Davis – Power Forward (Michigan State)
Words by Ti Windisch
Davis’ 2015-16 season: 7.6 PPG, 5.6 RPG, 0.6 APG, 0.2 SPG, 2.0 BPG, 62.1% FG
Deyonta Davis is a traditional power forward. Those words sound dirty now that the Golden State Warriors are on their currently insane run while playing a lot of small-ball, but there is still room for more traditional fours in the NBA.
Davis might even end up as an NBA center, considering his 6’10” height. Davis is a DeAndre Jordan type player right now at Michigan–he blocks a lot of shots and shoots a very high percentage from the field, but doesn’t score too much.
Davis hasn’t rebounded well enough to truly live up to that comparison, but playing at power forward makes rebounding slightly more difficult. Davis has a wingspan of seven feet plus, which helps to explain those two blocks in just 18 minutes per game.
His rim protection certainly helps his case at the center position, although Davis will need to prove he can rebound effectively to really thrive there at the next level.
