NBA Draft 2016: BTBP Big Board 1.0
By Adam McGee
24. Stephen Zimmerman – Center (UNLV)
Words by Jordan Treske
Zimmerman’s 2015-16 season: 10.4 PPG, 9.1 RPG, 0.8 APG, 0.4 SPG, 2.0 BPG, 46.0% FG
It was recently announced Zimmerman would be out indefinitely after suffering a sprained knee, and that leaves his current draft position in doubt. However, that might not matter as Zimmerman fits the mold for the type of big man that teams are looking for in this age of the NBA.
Zimmerman’s a great athlete for a seven-footer as he’s very mobile when he runs the floor and can finish above the rim in transition. Zimmerman’s also a very versatile defender and has the potential to be an exceptional rim protector in the NBA as he averages 2.1 blocks per game this season.
An area where Zimmerman will have to improve is his toughness. He has the size as well as the tools to play well down low, but he often avoids contact and plays facing the basket, rather than having his back to the rim.
That weakness has affected his shooting efficiency as he’s just 47 percent from the field but at only 19 years old, that could improve over time.
