All-Time Top 10 Milwaukee Bucks Trades
By Adam McGee
8. Wise salary shedding
Milwaukee Sent: Corey Maggette, John Salmons Rights to 10th pick (Jimmer Fredette)
Charlotte/Sacramento Sent: Stephen Jackson, Shaun Livingston, Beno Udrih and 19th pick (Tobias Harris)
When a team can clearly see their ceiling it’s always important to press reset in the most painless way possible, that’s what the Bucks did with this one.
Not only did they rid themselves of the contracts of two of the team’s the rapidly dimming leading lights, but they did so by getting back solid assets which could either help the team, or as time proved, be moved on in a hurry.
If we wanted to frame this deal in hindsight one of the greatest assets that came Milwaukee’s way could be a reason for reacting negatively to this trade in history.
Giving up the 10th overall pick that became Jimmer Fredette to select Tobias Harris at 19 seemed like a slam dunk move from the Bucks for quite a while, but now it is easier to be called into question considering that Kawhi Leonard and Klay Thompson were among those picked between those two men.
That shouldn’t change the value in this trade at the time though. The Bucks had to shake things up to move forward in the longer term, and if they weren’t sold on the players who were going to be on the board at 10 they certainly did close to as good a job of moving down as was possible having ended up at pick 19.
