7. The trade that defined Own the Future

Milwaukee Sent: Brandon Jennings

Detroit Sent: Brandon Knight, Khris Middleton and Slava Kravtsov

We would not be where we are today with the Milwaukee Bucks if it wasn’t for this trade. In fact, if the Bucks ever go on to become a real contender in their current incarnation, this trade will be a defining factor.

Along with Monta Ellis, Brandon Jennings had proven that the at the time current iteration of the Bucks was going to be little more than a perennial eighth seed battler. If they wanted to achieve something real, it was time to move on.

Brandon Knight was very much viewed as the cornerstone of the deal at the time, but as we now know, Khris Middleton’s inclusion was the real catch for Milwaukee.

It’s interesting now to note that both Jennings and Knight have since been traded again, but with Middleton and Michael Carter-Williams being by-products of this deal, it’s one that’s hard not to regularly reflect on as you think about Milwaukee’s future.
