10. Traded Zaza Pachulia to Dallas for a future second round draft pick

This trade might seem like an okay deal based on the description above. Here’s the real story. The Bucks needed salary cap space to sign Greg Monroe. The Mavericks desperately needed a center, far more than the Bucks needed cap space.

Dallas was seriously looking at starting Samuel Dalembert in 2016. After DeAndre Jordan left, Dallas was between a rock and a hard place. Until the Bucks arrived, and traded Zaza there for virtually nothing.

The second-round pick Milwaukee got back likely won’t transfer, as it’s top-55 protected. So even though the Bucks should have had all of the leverage in the world, they walked away with nothing in exchange for a starting center who had a great start to the 2015-16 season.

The defense for this deal, aside from salary cap reasons, is that the Bucks were trying to send their players to desirable locations. Milwaukee could have still dealt Zaza to the Mavericks, but at least get something tangible in return!
