All-Time Worst 10 Milwaukee Bucks Trades
By Ti Windisch
7. Dale Ellis traded to San Antonio for Tracy Murray. Murray traded to Portland for Alaa Abdelnaby
Dale Ellis may have been slightly past his prime when Milwaukee traded him for (eventually) Alaa Abdelnaby, but any of his 15-plus NBA seasons are more valuable than whatever Abdelnaby did over his entire career.
Here are their career total numbers presented next to each other, without further comment (for now):
Player | G | MP | FGA | FG% | 3PA | 3P% | FTA | FT% | TRB | AST | STL | BLK | TOV | PF | PTS |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Alaa Abdelnaby | 256 | 3200 | 1236 | .502 | 3 | .000 | 321 | .701 | 846 | 85 | 71 | 69 | 247 | 484 | 1465 |
Dale Ellis | 1209 | 34778 | 15275 | .479 | 4266 | .403 | 3365 | .784 | 4201 | 1746 | 974 | 183 | 1771 | 2480 | 19004 |

From 1987-1989, Dale Ellis recorded as many points per season as Abdelnaby did in his entire career. This trade was awful. Ellis was only 31 when Milwaukee traded him, and would continue to be a productive player for years to come.
He actually led the NBA in three-point percentage some seven years after this trade, in 1998. And Milwaukee traded him for Tracy Murray, who the team then immediately dealt for Alaa Abdelnaby. The logic behind those grades is as hard to understand as Alaa Abdelnaby is to pronounce.
