Milwaukee Bucks Player of the Week Rankings
1. ???
2. ???
3. Greg Monroe

This week Moose played in all three games and averaged 29.5 minutes, 14.0 points (59.4 percent shooting), 7.7 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 1.3 steals, and 1.3 blocks per game. He was second on the Bucks in rebounds, tied for second in steals and blocks, and tied for fourth in points and assists. Additionally, he was second on the team in field goal percentage.

This was one of Greg Monroe’s lesser weeks in terms of scoring and rebounding. He is averaging 16.5 points and 9.5 rebounds per game over the course of this season and his numbers this week are noticeably down from those averages. Even with that being the case, Monroe did a lot of things well to get himself in to the last spot of the player of the week rankings this week.

His most important contribution may have been his defense. He tied for second on the Bucks in both steals and blocks this week. That ain’t too shabby for a guy who is considered a bad defender. Additionally, Monroe had the second lowest defensive rating on the team this week, 102.3, if you only take into account players who played in all three games.

Next it is important to note Moose’s great shooting. He took just over 10 shots a game and made almost 60 percent of them. He was incredibly efficient when he looked to score. That is always something we see with Monroe. If he chooses to take a shot there is a great chance it is going to go in. That kind of reliability is vital on a team with so many young guys.

One interesting thing about the Bucks this week was that when Monroe was on the court the team got more possessions than when he was off it. No Buck that played a minimum of 15 minutes a game had a higher pace this week than Moose. This is interesting to me because I always think of the game slowing down when Monroe is in but this week showed that might not always be true.

Monroe surely had a down week in terms of his scoring and rebounding but the reason he makes the player of the week rankings is because of his all around impact. He scored efficiently, rebounded adequately, and played sound defense.
