Reactions: The Good

  • Could there be any other lead off than praising the performance of Giannis Antetokounmpo? Early in the game he helped break the Bucks out of their sluggish start with a rousing dunk over Serge Ibaka. As the game wore on he began to successfully push the ball in transition. In fact the Thunder seemed to lose track of him after corralling him for much of the first quarter. This most recent triple-double (his third) propels him into fourth place in the NBA in total triple-doubles. That puts him ahead of Stephen Curry, LeBron James, James Harden, John Wall and Kevin Durant to name a few. Not bad for a 21-year-old.
  • Giannis is playing like a man possessed. Russell Westbrook did the right thing getting out of the way. Serge Ibaka didn’t.
  • Despite having to take an early seat with two early fouls, Jabari Parker came on strong in the second quarter–scoring ten points on 5-7 shooting in the period. He finished with 26 points on 12-23 shooting (to go with a +10) and got it done from all over the court. He’s taking jumpers freely, making four from 18 feet or more Sunday afternoon. He’s always been a strong finisher at the rim, but this one demonstrates his excellent basketball instincts and superb body control.
  • The Bucks did a good job of protecting the basketball, turning it over just ten times to the Thunders 21. Turnovers have been an Achilles’ heel for the Bucks all season long. Protect the ball and force your opponent into mistakes. Against a lesser team that formula would have led to a win.
  • This happened. And there was much rejoicing.
  • Monroe’s role on the team is a big question mark right now. He doesn’t quite fit in with the fast break offense and the talent around him coming off the bench is very questionable. This puts him in a difficult spot. Still, you got to hand it to a man that can go out there and reel in six offensive rebounds. For a team that generally rebounds poorly, that’s an impressive total.
