Week 24 Wrap Up

This focus on playing the young guys is the right decision for the remainder of the season for the Milwaukee Bucks. It allows the team to figure out what they are capable of on the court. The Bucks need to know what Rashad Vaughn, Johnny O’Bryant, John Henson, Damien Inglis and Tyler Ennis can do so they can make the appropriate decisions whether to keep or let them walk when their contracts are up.

The other, and maybe more important, perk of letting the young guys play major minutes is the potential to move up one or more draft spots. Maybe the difference between the eighth and tenth pick in the first round of the upcoming draft is inconsequential or maybe it is the difference between getting a great player and a role player.

Also each draft position Milwaukee moves up to increases the likelihood of the Bucks winning the number one draft pick in the lottery. The Bucks could take the best player in the draft or they could trade down and receive a All Star, a package of good players, or excellent future draft picks.

Even though losing stinks for everyone, this season is lost and the Bucks need to figure out what they have in the young players. I am not a proponent of tanking, but in this situation I can understand why the team might be trying to do it.

Next week is the final week of the NBA season. The Bucks face three Eastern conference teams. Two are very bad and one is average. Regardless of what happens next week this season was disappointing. But there are a lot of good things that the Bucks and Bucks fans everywhere can take away from this season. The number one take away is that Giannis Antetokounmpo is amazing and might just turn into a superstar very very soon.
