Summer Focus and Final Grade

Without a doubt, the biggest question for Plumlee this summer is his free agency.

Despite being 27 years old, Plumlee is a restricted free agent this offseason as he’s still on his rookie contract. That key detail is big for the Bucks as they’ll have his bird rights to go over the salary cap to sign him this summer, if they so choose.

There’s mutual interest between both sides, with both Plumlee and key Bucks officials like John Hammond saying as much in each of their respective exit interviews, so things are looking up regarding the possibility of Plumlee coming back to the Bucks.

Yet, there’s two key questions that could shape that outcome once the free agency period begins.

For one, just how much money is a player like Plumlee worth?  He’s quite older than the average player entering restricted free agency and based on his play as well as the growing salary cap, it’s not crazy to think something close to a double-digit offer could be headed his way this summer.

Secondly, what do the Bucks do with their other two centers, namely Monroe?  Whether it’s real or not, Greg Monroe’s name will be among trade rumors and it’s apparent around the league that he doesn’t fit alongside the core of the Bucks.

Those circumstances won’t be easy for the Bucks to navigate around this summer, but this season showed that Plumlee is more or less, what the Bucks ideal center should be.

This will very likely be Plumlee’s only chance to earn life changing money so what may look like an easy decision now, could become a complicated one in an instant.

With that said, let’s hope we see Plumlee back in a green and cream uniform this fall.
