Milwaukee Bucks Player of the Week Rankings

  1. ???
  2. Greg Monroe
  3. Matthew Dellavedova

Moose played in both games this week and averaged 24.2 minutes, 12.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 2.5 steals, and 1.0 block per game. He was first on the team in steals, tied for second in blocks, and tied for third in points. Additionally, he led the team plus/minus at +8.

This is not the Greg Monroe we are used to seeing. The Moose we know and love scores a lot of points and gets a solid amount of rebounds. This is Moose version 2.0 and the update is interesting.

Monroe traded in his trademark offensive efficiency for a strong defensive performance this week. He beat Giannis at his own game by accruing seven total steals and blocks this week, Giannis only got six total. Is Monroe’s defensive stat stuffing a fluke or will he maintain some of this defensive prowess as the season goes on? Tune in next week to find out.

Beyond playing well on D, Monroe contributed in other areas. This week he was fourth on the team in assists, fourth on the team in rebounds (first in offensive rebounds), had the fewest fouls, and even had a point-rebound double-double. It was a solid overall week for Greg.

One more thing needs to be mentioned. In less than 50 total minutes over two games Moose went to the free throw line 10 times. That is not an amazing, ridiculous feat, especially for a talented scorer like Monroe. What is amazing is the fact that he made 90 percent of those free throws. Not a bad job for a career 70 percent free throw shooter.

Greg had a hard time making shots this week. He shot a paltry 38.1 percent from the field, far below his career shooting percentage of 50.8. We should expect to see his shooting percentage hover around 50 in future weeks and write this week off as an outlier.

Even with the poor shooting it was a strong week. Kevin Durant and Monroe were the only two players in the NBA to average six rebounds, three assists, two steals, and a block in their first two games this year.

Bucks fans should be excited about Moose 2.0. He might not be able to sustain what he did this week over the course of an entire season but if he can get close he will be an absolute asset to his team.

Seriously who is this guy?
