Milwaukee Bucks Player of the Week Rankings

  1. ???
  2. ???
  3. Matthew Dellavedova

Delly played in both games this week and averaged 32.6 minutes, 12.5 points (on 50 percent shooting), 3.0 rebounds, 6.0 assists, and 1.5 steals per game. He was first on the team in assists, tied for second in steals, and tied for third in points.

Matthew Dellavedova was everything we expected him to be this week. He came in, worked hard, got his teammates involved, produced solid stat lines, and didn’t make silly mistakes. If he continues to play like this throughout the season then he will have easily earned his new, fat contract.

The impact Delly has on a singular Bucks basketball game is wide-ranging. He spreads the floor, facilitates, scores efficiently in a myriad of ways and takes the perfect amount of shots, and limits his turnovers.

In week one Delly’s biggest contribution was his passing. The way he facilitates the offense while playing with Point Giannis is excellent. Since Giannis had a down week in terms of assist numbers Delly knew he had to pick up the slack for the Bucks offense. And he did it well.

Dellavedova led Milwaukee in assists and was second on the team, behind Malcolm Brogdon, in assist to turnover ratio. You should expect to see Delly pacing or being with the top three of those two categories on the Bucks every single week. He has excellent floor vision and a knack for finding his teammates in the right spots.

Another asset that Delly brings to the table is his consistent defensive effort. Milwaukee was a porous defensive team last year but Dellavedova refuses to play bad on that end. He is tenacious and constantly bothering his defender. If you don’t believe that then you can ask Stephen Curry.

With three total steals this week and a lot of good defensive plays, Delly did his job on that end of the floor. Without his stifling D here, this cool Giannis dunk ceases to exist.

His three-point shooting was really his only lowlight this week. He averaged two attempts per game but the Bucks need him to make more than 25 percent of those attempts. If he could have bumped that three-point shooting he would have certainly made the second spot in this week’s player of the week rankings.
