Player To Watch: Joel Embiid

There is no case for any other player on the Philadelphia 76ers being more important or entertaining than Joel Embiid. It’s impossible to not have fun watching this dude. Even though the 76ers are still trash, Embiid plays each game like it’s the deciding contest in a tight playoff series.

Good for him. Philadelphia needed a hero, and Embiid certainly fits the bill. He’s going to be fun to watch here for a long time, even for fans of other NBA teams. It took a few years, but the 76ers people are positive Embiid was well worth the wait.

This season in just 25.2 minutes per game, Embiid is averaging 19.6 points, 7.6 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 0.8 steals and 2.3 blocks per game. His per 36 numbers are straight-up insanity: 28 points, nearly 11 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.1 steals and 3.3 blocks.

Sorry Brogdon, but there is no way Embiid is not the Rookie of the Year. He might end up an All-Star this season. He may not be in the 2016 draft class, but since Embiid hasn’t played at all before this season it doesn’t matter that he was picked in 2014–this is his rookie campaign. What a start to a career.
