Milwaukee Bucks: Slam Dunk Contest History, 2017 Preview
By Adam McGee
As the NBA prepares for the latest chapter in the Slam Dunk Contest to be written on Saturday night, we look back at the Milwaukee Bucks’ history in the event.
As fun as all of the events across All-Star Weekend can be, it doesn’t seem too bold of a statement to say that the Slam Dunk Contest remains the pick of the bunch for most who tune in.
As much as fans marvel at the standard of shooting in the Three-Point Shootout, there’s an element to shooting that feels attainable for even mediocre basketball players via endless hours of practice. On the other hand, dunking is not within the reach of every average Joe.
For even the simplest of slam dunks, there’s a combined minimum requirement for both size and athleticism necessary in order to execute. That doesn’t even account for some of the jaw-dropping dunks that can be found on display at the Dunk Contest either.

There’s no better example of that than the 2016 Dunk Contest, as Zach LaVine and Aaron Gordon put on a show of incredible athleticism and skill to help reignite the event to levels of interest that it hadn’t reached for a number of years.
If for those reasons the Slam Dunk Contest is the true centerpiece of All-Star Weekend, Milwaukee Bucks fans have had the opportunity to witness some of their own take part in the event on three different occasions across three different decades.
Although there are no Milwaukee Bucks participating in this season’s event, it seems like as good time as ever to look back to the franchise’s past in the Slam Dunk Contest.
