2013 Trade Deadline

Milwaukee trades Tobias Harris, Doron Lamb and Beno Udrih to the Orlando Magic for J.J. Redick, Ish Smith and Gustavo Ayon.

One on hand, the Bucks got the best and probably third-best player in this deal by acquiring J.J. Redick and Ish Smith. Tobias Harris was a young, talented forward, but getting two pretty solid players for him is not a bad return.

On the other hand, neither Redick nor Smith played a single minute for Milwaukee the season after this deal. Redick bolted the second he hit free agency after having to come off of the bench behind Monta Ellis, and Smith was dealt for Caron Butler later that summer.

Harris is having himself a good career after rough stints with both the Bucks and Magic under Scott Skiles, but if trading him is what set up the Bucks to draft and then play Giannis Antetokounmpo more in their next season than I don’t think many Bucks fans have an issue with this deal.

One note from this season–the Bucks had a shocking eight players shoot worse than 40 percent from the field in 2012-13 NBA season. Two of them, Lamb and Smith, were involved in this trade. Fun!
