1999 Trade Deadline

Two trades! In a three-team deal, the Bucks sent out Terrell Brandon and Elliot Perry in exchange for Sam Cassell, Chris Gatling and Paul Grant. Also, Stephon Marbury was involved.

Milwaukee also sent Tyrone Hill and Jerald Honeycutt to Philly for Tim Thomas and Scott Williams.

Marbury’s involvement here is only interesting because the Bucks had technically drafted him back in 1996, although the team swapped him for Ray Allen and another future first at the time. He went from the Minnesota Timberwolves to the New Jersey Nets in this deal.

Terrell Brandon, Cassell and Marbury were the three key players in this deal. Brandon went to Minnesota, Cassell came to Milwaukee and Starbury went to the Jersey Shore.

Brandon was a good player, but Cassell peaked higher and probably for longer, although he actually would end up with less All-Star nods than Brandon would.

In the second trade, the Bucks got a reliable forward in Thomas for a slightly less reliable center in Hill. It was a solid deal, and Thomas would end up spending six strong years with Milwaukee when all was said and done. Neither Honeycutt nor Williams ended up having much of an impact in the league.
