A New Big Three?

This is both a good and a bad takeaway. On the bright side, three Bucks were fantastic against Detroit. Thon, Giannis and Khris Middleton all put up 20-plus points in really strong performances on both ends.

Giannis put up 28 points, 14 rebounds, nine assists, one steal and two blocks in 45 minutes of action against the Pistons. Middleton added 25 points, 10 rebounds, one assist and one steal in 43 minutes. We went through Thon’s night earlier, but here’s a refresher: he posted 23 points in 25 minutes.

That’s a combined 76 points. So the bright side is that three Bucks combined for 76 points. The grim side is that means eight other Bucks combined for 32 points. The only Buck who made more than half of their field goals in that latter group was Michael Beasley, who somehow made three of four shots while clearly still banged up.

Tony Snell and Greg Monroe were especially bad. Snell failed to make a shot all night and Monroe made just one. The Bucks have relied on these two–having them combine to go one-for-12 from the field was really tough for Milwaukee to overcome.

Luckily the new big three of Giannis, Khris and Thon found a way to do it.
