Giannis Delivers

Giannis Antetokounmpo’s play was the stuff of legend on Thursday night, playing 47 minutes, motivating children everywhere to run around to the point of exhaustion, and practice their free throws. Antetokounmpo looked beyond exhausted in the fourth quarter, and yet pushed through to dart to the rim time after time, drawing fouls.

He was unable to pull through and make his free throws, which was a storyline throughout the series. It’s a great learning lesson for the 22-year-old superstar. He needs to learn how to shoot free throws at a high level when he’s putting playoff effort in.

Regardless of the free throws, the Greek Freak was able to put up 34 points, nine rebounds, three assists, two steals, and two blocks, with only three turnovers. He made an incredible block late in the game coming out of a media timeout.

The young star was able to make huge impact plays when he had nothing left in the tank. Giannis’ performance resembled something very rare in the modern NBA. How often do you see players play that many minutes, like a star player in the high school state tournament?

Jason Kidd trusted in his star and put all faith in him to give his team their best chance to win. It didn’t materialize, but the two have a strong understanding together and as Giannis improves and continues to learn from Kidd, hopefully that will only grow further.
