The Best of Vaughn
One positive thing about Vaughn’s game is that in the rare moments he does have the ball, he tends to be careful with it. Vaughn averaged just 1.1 turnovers per 36 minutes this season, third-best on the Bucks behind Tony Snell and Jason Terry.
Scant minutes make the sample sizes tiny, but recording 23 assists compared to 14 turnovers on the season is evidence of a quality ball-handler. Vaughn would like to become something of a point guard, although he has a lot of work to do to get there.
He’s no Tony Allen, but defense was probably the next-best part of Vaughn’s game this past season. The advanced numbers suggest the Bucks defense was better without Vaughn, although sometimes in his minutes he was able to force a turnover or smother someone for a possession.
Unfortunately, a lack of focus and consistency hampered Vaughn’s ability to do much anything good in most of his playing time. According to win shares, Vaughn added nothing to Milwaukee in 2016-17. At least he didn’t hurt the team!
