Orlando Magic

Teams are typically pretty early in their rebuilding process if they’re in a position to take a bad contract in exchange for a draft pick. The New York Knicks might have enough room to do so, but making win-later moves with a franchise cornerstone on the clock usually isn’t smart.

More from Behind the Buck Pass

The Sixers can afford to do it more than the Knicks for a few reasons. Embiid, Simmons and Fultz didn’t leave the country after skipping their exit interviews, and none of them were shopped in the last few weeks. Also, Philly could have more cap space than the Knicks.

Anyway, this is all a roundabout way of saying the Orlando Magic don’t have a franchise player, so their timetable isn’t as meaningful. Aaron Gordon has shown flashes, but at under 13 points per game and without a serviceable three-point stroke he’s not shown that he can be a guy to build a team around.

Orlando GM John Hammond is the one who inked Teletovic and Henson to their deals, so maybe he’s interested in running it back with one or both of those guys. Hammond being smart, he’d likely ask for a draft pick in exchange for taking back one of his mistake contracts, but at this point the Bucks wouldn’t be in the wrong to do whatever it takes to clear cap room, within reason.

It’d be a shame for Milwaukee to lose out on Snell, and other opportunities down the line, because of an inability to move on from John Henson, Mirza Teletovic, and other poor contracts that have been signed.

Hopefully, one of the five teams listed here could help the Milwaukee Bucks clear some cap room, although it will almost certainly cost Milwaukee to do so.
