Wilson!
D.J. Wilson kind of blew it on Wednesday. Granted the Bucks were down by two and there’s no guarantee a shot taken would’ve gone in, it’s certainly better to get a shot to tie/take the lead than not to get a shot to tie/take the lead.
This is the place such a mistake should be made, though, if it’s going to be made. Despite our own Jordan Treske’s assertions that Summer League matters, the rest of the sentient universe is in agreement that Summer League does not matter.
That’s why it’s cool to see Thon Maker try to handle the ball more in Las Vegas, or for Wilson to take tons of threes that don’t end up being close, or for Rashad Vaughn to try to cook everybody (more on that last one in a bit). Because if it doesn’t work, you can just shrug and move on.
Shrugging and moving on is certainly the correct move following D.J.’s poor pass to end this game. It’s something the Bucks will use as a learning experience for the rookie forward, who will have plenty of those kinds of moments once his first NBA season gets underway.
Wilson, like most of the Bucks, didn’t have an inspiring all-around night. He dropped seven points on 11 field goal attempts, including four missed threes. This was ugly, but there’s not much to do but try to learn something for the next game.
