Jon Horst hired as new GM
The Bucks didn’t start out the summer on ideal footing. Former General Manager John Hammond accepted a job offer from the Orlando Magic, leaving the Bucks without a lead decision-maker for much of the run-up to the draft and free agency.
With Hammond’s departure, the general assumption was that Justin Zanik would be the new general manager, as he had previous been labeled by outside reports as the “GM-in-waiting.” However, that proved not to be the case.
Instead, the Bucks hired a widely unknown name, Jon Horst. Reports suggested that the Bucks ownership group couldn’t come to a unanimous agreement on the decision, and they ultimately picked up some bad publicity during the debacle.
Eventually, they did agree to hire Horst. However, with the Bucks entering an important era for the franchise, they need an ownership group that is in sync with one another, if they want to succeed.
