Although no official announcement has yet been made, Milwaukee Bucks team president Peter Feigin seemed to imply MillerCoors could be a team jersey sponsor.

The Milwaukee Bucks, like every NBA team, will soon announce their jersey sponsor for the 2017-18 NBA season. Small patches with the sponsor logo will adorn NBA jerseys for the first time ever this year, earning the teams involved a nice chunk of change.

In an appearance on FOX Business Network, Peter Feigin told Liz Claman that teams could expect to make somewhere between $2.5 million and $6 million annually from the patches, which will be on the upper right portion of the jersey when looking directly at them.

That may be the fun part to the Bucks business side of things, but fans of the team are clamoring to find out who is going to grace the front of Milwaukee’s jerseys more so than how much the brand is going to pay for the honor of doing so.

Many teams are going with businesses that are in some way local, so several such as Harley-Davidson and Northwestern Mutual have been thrown out as possible ideas. Claman asked Feigin about another local possibility, MillerCoors, and the Bucks team president didn’t exactly deny the logic of that partnership.

“Well [Milwaukee is] a beer town, you know, and MillerCoors is one of our partners, and they will be for the next five years,” Feigin said when asked about the intricate link between Milwaukee and the brewing industry.

You don’t have to go very far in the city to see a beer sponsorship, as the Milwaukee Brewers play in Miller Park. Is it simply an homage to the region that the Bucks new arena is keg/beer barrel-shaped, or is it a ploy as part of a larger sponsorship deal with MillerCoors to get naming rights and jersey sponsorship?

It seems like the Bucks have been thinking about increased partnership, or at the very least continued partnership, with alcohol companies lately. When asked about the NBA potentially not wanting to be associated with that kind of product, Feigin seemed confident it wouldn’t be a problem.

“No, I think alcohol has been a partner with the NBA and with venues for a long time,” Feigin said.

This is far from confirmation on any sort of sponsorship deal, but Milwaukee’s long association with Miller in specific, evidenced by Miller Park sitting roughly five miles from the new arena, means it’d make a lot of sense for the brand to be involved with the Bucks new ventures.

Milwaukee Bucks fans will have to wait and see what company or brand ends up purchasing that space on the new jerseys, and to see what the jerseys themselves will look like for next season and beyond now that Nike is designing them.
