Milwaukee Bucks: 5 Potential Trades Before Training Camp
By Rohan Katti
Milwaukee Receives: Garrett Temple
Sacramento Receives: Mirza Teletovic, Rashad Vaughn, 2018 2nd Round Pick
A victor of the salary cap spike of 2016, Mirza Teletovic did not live up to his salary of $10.5 million during the 2016-17 season. When on the floor, Mirza was a pure gunner, as letting him dribble the ball ended in disaster almost every possession.
While opposing defenders would respect his three-point shot, he unfortunately only shot 34.1 percent from deep. There is no denying that Teletovic plays abominable defense, so him being an offensive liability as well is unacceptable at any price, much less the one he costs now. However, if Mount Mirza is active (credit to Jordan Treske ), he is within the view of the echelon of stink-face Giannis. Unfortunately, hoping for moments of brilliance is not the way the Bucks should handle their bench, so Jon Horst and company should be hoping a team wants to trade for him.
With Sacramento in the midst of a full rebuild, the plan is to build up a stack of draft picks and young players. The way to do that in today’s NBA climate is to absorb salary with assets attached. Armed with cap space, the Kings are able to easily absorb Teletovic’s salary. Adding Vaughn and a 2018 second round pick to the deal would fulfil Sacramento’s need for assets. Mirza would actually be a great fit on the Kings too, as he is a seasoned vet who can teach the young players how to succeed and shoot.
Receiving Garrett Temple is not a huge deal for Milwaukee, and would most likely not offer a whole lot more in terms of role outside of being a veteran presence. Temple does however represent savings of about $4.3 million for the Bucks, and that is increasingly important as they take steps towards being a championship contender.
