Can Sterling Brown follow Malcolm Brogdon‘s lead and exceed all expectations as a Milwaukee Bucks second round pick?
Sterling Brown enters the NBA and life with the Milwaukee Bucks with a new kind of expectation on his shoulders. After Malcolm Brogdon became the first rookie to be voted Rookie of the Year from outside of the first round since Woody Sauldsberry in 1958, Brown now has big footsteps to follow in.
Selected by the Philadelphia 76ers with the 46th selection in this year’s draft, Brown found his way to Milwaukee via a three-way draft night trade. Milwaukee sent their 48th pick (Sindarius Thornwell) to the Los Angeles Clippers for cash considerations ($2M). Milwaukee then took Brown for cash considerations again ($1.9M). Essentially, the Bucks traded up two places in the draft and made a small profit in doing so.
Alas, Brown is now a member of the Bucks and certainly fits the mold the Bucks used in selecting Brogdon one year ago. Like Brogdon, Brown entered the draft a college senior, after having spent four seasons with Southern Methodist University (SMU). In his senior year, Brown combined with fellow draftee Semi Ojeleye to take SMU all the way to the NCAA Tournament.
Most fans certainly seems to have high expectations for Brown, after Brogdon’s exploits last season, but Brown may just have the résumé to live up to these lofty expectations and contribute to the roster straight away, as a second round draftee.
