What Henson offers

In short, Henson is equipped with the kind of length, mobility and athleticism that should make him the perfect big man for the Bucks.

The problem with the hypothetical fit is that it works on the premise of greater consistency than what Henson has generally been able to deliver.

Henson’s most obvious strengths come from his length. In a switch-heavy, aggressive defensive scheme, Henson’s physical tools act as an obvious positive. His positional defensive work can be found wanting, along with his rebounding, but there can be no arguing that Henson is effective at leveraging his length into shot-blocking.

For his career, Henson averages 1.5 blocks per game, which translates to an even more impressive 2.9 blocks when adjusted to a per 36 minute rate.

Offensively, Henson’s length again dominates the story. Although he generally doesn’t offer the kind of aggression in attacking the rim that could lead to great success for him with his long arms and tall frame, Henson is the master of the hook shot.

A more diverse offensive arsenal would be a welcome addition, but Henson’s lefty hook remains a reliable shot for the big man to lean on. A career 53.4 percent shooter from the field, Henson provides the kind of efficiency that is essential for a player who spends most of his time around the rim.
