How does Henson fit in?

An affable personality, who seems well-liked by his teammates and is always smart and gracious in his time and comments to the media, as Henson matures he begins to resemble more and more the kind of veteran role player that every team would love to have around.

Add that to a physical profile that perfectly fits with and complements the shape and abilities of many of his teammates, and the answer quickly becomes apparent. John Henson is an excellent fit with the Milwaukee Bucks.

The problem, and the reason why that kind of compliment is almost never sent Henson’s way any more, is that discussing his fit a lot more complicated than just considering his abilities and personality.

At this point, Henson doesn’t fit with a Bucks team pushed hard up against the salary cap, due to his contract more than anything else. With the recent slow down of mega money deals that swept the NBA for a spell of 12-24 months, Henson’s contract has been left to look bloated for a backup, never mind a player who doesn’t always crack the rotation.

The reality is that Henson probably can’t play at a level that’ll see him fit with the Bucks and live up to his contract, but at the very least he needs to play well enough so that it’s not the only thing defining his spot on the roster.

If Henson was on a moderate contract, the perception of him would be entirely different, but instead he has to deal with the rather lucrative hand that I’m sure he was glad to have been dealt.
