Milwaukee Bucks: Takeaways from loss to Dallas Mavericks

It’s no secret that this preseason stands as a pivotal point for the career of Rashad Vaughn.

After having the brightest of his three stints in this year’s Summer League, the hope going into training camp and preseason would be seeing things finally click for the UNLV product and having that carry into his performance heading into the regular season, especially after all the time he’s logged in the league.

On Monday night, we saw some of the elements that extended from Vaughn’s Summer League performance this year and some of the shortcomings that have dogged him throughout his NBA career as well.

In 20 minutes of play, Vaughn scored a team-high 20 points on 8-of-18 shooting from the field and 3-of-8 shooting from beyond the arc. Along with that, Vaughn also grabbed two rebounds, posted three assists, registered three steals as well as three turnovers and had a plus-minus of 3.

Overall, it was a generally encouraging performance for Vaughn, who even showed a little more spring in his step than we’ve been used to seeing.

There were also the clutch baskets he hit late in the game to keep the Bucks in the game and also put them in a position to try and grab a win as he acted as the team’s primary option down the stretch.

But it wasn’t a perfect performance obviously, with the biggest drawback to his night being his tough shot selection and continued struggles to finish around the rim against the length of NBA caliber bigs. That’s not all through the fault of Vaughn’s but it’s safe to say he didn’t make matters easier for himself either.

That may be a little nitpicky, considering the circumstances involved with his performance and it being preseason as well, but we’ll have to see just how Vaughn follows up his performance as we all know this feeling far too well.
