Milwaukee Bucks: Tony Snell season preview 2017-18
By Ben Sewell
What does Snell offer?
Last season, Snell was Milwaukee’s premier three-point shooter, finishing with the most made threes and the fourth highest three-point percentage. In the same breath however, Snell only made 102 two-point field goals, which put him in ninth place on the team. Even Khris Middleton who played 51 games less finished with more two-point field goals.
This however is not a blight on Snell’s game, rather an indication of the role he played last year. Snell is an elite three-point scorer and positions himself accordingly. In a side with the talents of Giannis Antetokounmpo, Snell had many open looks last year from beyond the perimeter. Rather than choosing to turn these opportunities up and drive to the rim, Snell took the option from deep and knocked them down at an elite level.
It’s this type of play which led Snell to the elite true shooting percentage of above 60 percent last season. He makes the better play at an efficient rate and does so night in and night out. On a Bucks team so short of genuine three point threats, Snell stood tall last year and reaped the rewards.
Another positive aspect of Snell’s game last season was his consistent ability to stay on the court. Alongside Antetokounmpo, Snell was the only player to start 80 games last season. In fact, the only two games Snell missed weren’t from injury at all. Snell missed the first game of the season due to the late nature of his trade to Milwaukee from Chicago. Snell then missed the final game of the season as Kidd rested several of his starters in an attempt to keep them fit for the playoffs.
