Brandon Knight or: How I learned to start blogging and love the Milwaukee Bucks

The abridged version of my journey from fan to writer to co-site expert and back to writer again at Behind the Buck Pass.

I’ve written for Behind the Buck Pass in some capacity or another since January 14, 2015, when an article I wrote about Brandon Knight went live. I’ve been the co-site expert here with Adam McGee since November of that same year. Somehow, this crazy journey of blogging basically daily about the Milwaukee Bucks is creeping on two years of age.

Well, it was creeping on two years of age. Effective immediately, I’m not the co-expert of Behind the Buck Pass anymore. That sentence feels impossible, but it’s true. It’s also my decision, and it was one that pained me to make.

I love BTBP. With my final semester ramping up, a pair of day jobs and a podcast that recently hit 100 episodes all taking their toll, I didn’t feel like I could do enough for it. The site deserves two dedicated stewards to make sure everybody’s ideas shine through. I didn’t think I was up for being one of them anymore.

Luckily, there is someone that everybody who knows the site knows well who is up for that challenge. Jordan Treske, star of the Win in 6 podcast and reliable contributor at the site since 2015 as well, will be taking my place. I know without a shadow of a doubt that Jordan will bring a new, fresh approach to the site, and that it will be better for his increased input and presence.

I’ll still be around, working mostly on covering the Wisconsin Herd and picking up Bucks analysis pieces now and again. As for what happens when I graduate from UW Oshkosh with my journalism degree in December, who knows. If you or somebody you know is hiring writers, podcast producers or editors to cover the NBA, my DMs are open and very welcoming.

I would be remiss to not thank some people for making this possible. First off, thank you to the readers. When Adam, Jordan and I started back in our early days with the site, we were delighted to have anybody read what we had to say. We still are. The only difference is now a lot of people actually do read BTBP, and you give us constant feedback and input.

Those things are invaluable, and we quite literally wouldn’t have a reason to do any of this without you. Bucks Twitter is a weird and beautiful place. Thanks for welcoming us into it.

Second, thank you to the staff writers we’ve had over the years. I can’t possibly name everybody, but if you ever wrote for Behind the Buck Pass I owe you a huge debt of gratitude. Nobody would want to read three articles a day from the same writer or two. What makes BTBP, and all FanSided sites, great is the amount of varied voices that get a platform with which to share their views. Staff writers are the best. I should know, I’m one of them now!

Finally, thank you to Adam McGee. He’ll hate that he gets his own section here, but it’s not hyperbole to say I wouldn’t have ever gotten into blogging were it not for a chance post on Bucks Reddit that Adam made in January 2015. Good thing I was online in class that day! I got a new career field and a great friend out of it.

This dude taught me a ton about blogging, about basketball and about a lot more than those things. It’s hard to imagine two basketball fans with more conflicting views on so much than the two of us, and I think our ability to disagree without ever losing respect for each other helped us make BTBP the best damn Bucks site out there. I can’t wait to see what it becomes next.

So, anyway, thanks everybody. It’s been a ton of fun so far, and I can only imagine it’ll be even more fun going forward. I’m just sad I had to step down the day before Giannis Antetokounmpo’s first MVP season starts.
