Milwaukee Bucks: Takeaways from 96-89 loss to Boston Celtics
Three headed monster
Heading into the season most expected Jason Kidd to go with a two-man rotation of Thon Maker and Greg Monroe at the center position. However, after a productive pre-season, and an impressive start to the year it appears that John Henson has earned his place in the rotation until further notice.
Thursday night against the Celtics, all three centers were given approximately the same amount of time on the court, all having between 14-17 minutes. During that time none were particularly productive, with no one center recording more than eight points or six rebounds.
This will be an interesting dynamic to watch moving forward. Some players require more than 15 minutes a night to get in a rhythm, and without the ability to share the court, that will be the maximum they will be able to receive on a nightly basis.
A particularly interesting factor is the different skill-set each player brings to the table. Monroe offers scoring and a refined post-game the team can rely upon, Henson is the best defender of the bunch and provides the team with rebounding, while Maker can do a little of each providing rim protection and spacing the floor.
Regardless of who was on the floor on Thursday the play was poor. Perhaps Kidd will look to shorten the rotation, leaving a player out for the time being, or perhaps all three will find their niche as roles develop throughout the year.
