8. Greg Monroe

What he provides

Coming into the season, many viewed Greg Monroe as a Sixth Man of the Year candidate, and while his play has been somewhat disappointing this season, very few bench players offer the scoring punch Monroe does.

Defensively, Monroe has some question marks. However, last season he showed improved effort and was relatively effective. Monroe will likely never be a plus-defender, but as long as he is average, his offensive play will outweigh his liabilities, particularly in second unit lineups.

Contract Situation

After accepting the player option on the final year of his contract, Monroe will earn $17.9 million this season before hitting free agency in the summer.

If a team were to trade for Monroe, this would likely be the reason. Rebuilding teams are often in search of salary relief and a contract like Monroe’s is the best way to match unwanted deals.

Potential Suitors

Monroe has more potential options than many of the other players on the Bucks’ roster, as far as trade targets are concerned.

Due to his play, a contending team may have interest in the center as a way to energize their bench unit. Meanwhile, Monroe’s contract is also of interest to teams who are currently in a rebuild and looking to shed unwanted contracts in search of cap space for the upcoming offseason.
