After many months of preparation off the court, the Wisconsin Herd are set to tip off their inaugural season Monday night against the Rio Grande Valley Vipers.

With the early start to the 2017-18 NBA season, all Milwaukee Bucks fans are settling into the young campaign sooner than usual compared to past years.

The Bucks are currently looking for answers as they’re reeling a bit with their current three-game losing steak, which they’ll look to break when they face the reigning Eastern Conference champion Cleveland Cavaliers on Tuesday night.

While we’re just getting into the rhythm of another long regular season, a new venture for the organization that sets sail on Monday night will offer a twist to this year’s campaign for all Bucks fans.

After months of establishing themselves as an entity of the organization, preparing a roster and so much more, the Wisconsin Herd will hit the court for their historic first game on Monday night when they face off against the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, the Houston Rockets’ G League affiliate.

From the time the Herd was officially announced nearly nine months ago, the long-standing hope for many Bucks fans has now quickly shifted into a reality that will surely become an asset for the team in the years to come.

At the same time, the Herd will mark an entry point for a large portion of the Bucks’ fanbase to the G League as a whole.

That’s been evidenced by the various mechanisms and the inner workings of the league we’ve been introduced to as the Herd have assembled their roster over the last couple of months.

But now with the season finally here, many fans will get their first meaningful look at the caliber of players that make up the rosters of teams all around the league.

More importantly, however, starting up the Herd will offer the Bucks new territory for them to cover as they continue to mine for talent to improve their roster in any way they can.

The ever growing number of success stories that continue to pop up year after year have only shown how the quality of the G League has grown at an incredible rate since being founded in 2001.

Those range from Jeremy Lin, Hassan Whiteside, Jonathon Simmons and countless others who have carved out a place in the NBA, but it goes for many others who have made a living playing professional basketball all over the world.

With that said, only a select group of players will rise through the Herd ranks and achieve their dreams of playing in the NBA while wearing green and cream. However, it goes beyond the players as the Herd will also mark as a testing ground of sorts as they hope to establish the various principles that the Bucks have preached over the last few years.

Of course, the Herd will have to wait a little longer than previously thought to christen their home with the delays in putting the finishing touches on the newly-named Menominee Nation Arena.

Fortunately, the BMO Harris Bradley Center will act as the Herd’s temporary home for their first three home games before they truly usher in their own stomping grounds on December 1 against the Iowa Wolves.
