Positive takeaway

As much as this problem continues to exist for their parent club, getting to the free-throw line wasn’t much of a problem for the Herd last night against the Stars.

On the night, the Herd went to the stripe 43 times, from which they sank 31 of their attempts, a big uptick over their performance against the Vipers earlier in the week. Compare that to the Stars’ 27 attempts from the line (they converted 21 of those attempts, by the way) and the free throw disparity clearly went in the Herd’s favor.

Getting to the line as often as they did was the lifeline for the Herd, even with a fairly efficient night from the field and a less than successful night from beyond the arc.

Thanks to the attacking of Xavier Munford and Michael Dunigan, who practically lived at the free throw line, those two key contributors made up for half of the team’s free throw output at 25 attempts combined. Add in Jarvis Summers’ perfect 5-for-5 from the stripe and the Herd made the most out of their numerous trips to the line.

Of course, it’s hard to count on that kind of production every night, but with the skilled and quick point guards they have on their roster in particular, how often the Herd get to the free-throw line could very well shape their success on the offensive end for much of the season.
