After leading for much of the game, the Wisconsin Herd briefly stumbled late, but worked through their struggles to outlast the Salt Lake City Stars on Wednesday night to go 2-0 on the young season.

Despite being up comfortably for much of the game, the Wisconsin Herd weathered the storm late over the Salt Lake City Stars on Wednesday night, winning 103-97.

The Herd couldn’t have asked for a better start as they scored the game’s first 15 points before the Stars were able to finally get on the board at the 6:56 mark of the first quarter. While the Stars were able to show signs of life by the end of the first quarter, the Herd didn’t take their foot off of the proverbial gas pedal as they led 31-18 heading into the second quarter.

It was only more of the same for the Herd in the second quarter as they built their lead up to 23 midway through the period.

But much like the first quarter, the Stars persevered and chipped away at their deficit late in the second, before the Herd were able to build it back up to 57-41 going into halftime.

As comfortable as their performance looked throughout the first half, the game gradually shifted in the Stars’ favor the further into the third quarter.

Following their solid start to the second half, the Herd were losing their rhythm on the offensive end and committed a string of turnovers that opened up the door for the Stars to bring their deficit down to single digits by the end of the period.

Already thin and without James Young for what ended up being the rest of the game, head coach Jordan Brady deployed an incredibly short rotation in order to get the job done and secure the win in the fourth quarter.

With the Stars breathing down their neck, the Herd were doing enough to skate on their minimal lead for much of the fourth quarter. However, the Herd’s inconsistent execution gave way for the Stars to not only tie up the game but briefly hold a two-point lead near the three-minute mark of the period.

But thanks to a succession of clutch buckets from Michael Dunigan, the Herd were able to escape Salt Lake City with their second win and continue their perfect start to their inaugural season.
