Positive takeaway

Missing both Bolomboy and Alexander means it wasn’t all that surprising that the Herd’s contributions were more than a little lopsided, particularly as Michael Dunigan couldn’t manage to recreate his Salt Lake City heroics on this occasion.

Still, the Herd will have to be pleased at the high-level production they received from their backcourt, particularly as Payton slotted in for the first time this season.

Xavier Munford continued his run of excellent play with 18 points on 7-of-13 shooting from the field in his 28 minutes of action.

Payton fit in seamlessly alongside him, and effectively drove his team forward in the way that both the Bucks and Herd would hope to see their two-way players do with regularity.

We’ll take a closer look at Payton’s game shortly, but it is worth noting the one notable disappointment in the backcourt came in the form of JeQuan Lewis. Having impressed as a starter alongside Munford in the Herd’s first two games, Lewis was held scoreless in 27 minutes of action on Saturday and finished with a team-worst plus/minus of -32.
