Wisconsin Herd triumph over Delaware 87ers, win 119-111
Player of the game
For anyone thinking James Young couldn’t follow up his brilliant shooting performance from over the weekend against the Maine Red Claws in similar fashion Tuesday night, it’s safe to say you were sorely mistaken.
In 37 minutes of action, Young scored 41 points (a new Herd single-game scoring record) on 12-of-16 shooting from the field (9-of-11 shooting from long range), grabbed five rebounds, dished out three assists, had two steals, a block and was a +10.
Simply put, the reigning G League Performer of the Week was simply unconscious shooting the ball whenever it came his way as he hit his many threes in a variety of ways (off the catch, off screens, at a standstill, etc.).
In a way, it was a bit of a contrast to Young’s previous performances as it felt like the Michigan native needed the ball in his hands in order to get in a rhythm where it worked the other way around against the 87ers.
Along with his hot shooting from beyond the arc, Young made multiple trips to the free-throw line as he went 8-of-11 from the stripe. That mark was close to being perfect before Young missed three consecutive attempts down the stretch as he was looking a little fatigued closing out the game.
All in all, it was just yet another incredibly strong performance for the 22-year-old and the Herd are clearly reaping the rewards when Young has been available to play for them:
After bouncing out of the league over the summer, Young is determined to make his way back up to the NBA and is doing everything possible to make that happen sooner rather than later. Although his recent torrid pace will inevitably stabilize a bit, we’ll have to appreciate him while he’s with the Herd for the time being and tearing it up on the G League level.
