Thon, the widowmaker

Getting the start in place of the recovering John Henson, Thon Maker rose to the challenge and came through in the clutch for the Bucks against the Suns last night.

Maker was particularly active to start the game as he was going up for boards, sent home a strong second chance finish through contact and made a couple of trips to the free-throw line (Maker was a perfect 4-for-4 from the stripe).

However, Maker’s play and effectiveness started to dip the further we went into the game, specifically coming out of halftime. He picked up quick fouls and was a key reason for why the Bucks were struggling defensively as the Suns started to find their offensive rhythm by bending the Bucks’ offense at their will.

With that said, Maker started to rebound in the fourth quarter as he hit three wide open mid-rangers to keep the Bucks in the game with their offense grounding down to a halt for much of the period. Unfortunately, Maker’s night came to an early end as he fouled out for the night with 5 seconds left to go in regulation.

In total, the second-year Maker scored a season-high 16 points on 6-of-11 shooting from the field, grabbed eight rebounds, had three blocks and was a +4. While it was not without drawbacks, Maker’s night was an incredibly encouraging one and hopefully can be something to build on from here on out for the 20-year-old.

The Bucks will next face the Utah Jazz on Saturday night at Vivint Smart Home Arena and will hopefully have some reinforcements back at that time as well.
