Concerning takeaway

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, I’m going to have to talk about turnovers in a Herd game. Again.

A strong fourth quarter pushed the Herd on to a 116-109 win over the Wolves, but it should have been so much easier.

Wisconsin shot the ball incredibly well throughout the night, going for 51 percent from the field, 42 percent from deep, and 85 percent from the free throw line. It’s rare for a game to be as close as this one was when a team shoots the ball as well as that, but there was good reason for it in this case.

Even with a very different looking lineup due to the reinforcements that arrived from Milwaukee, the Herd were incredibly reckless when it came to taking care of the ball. Jordan Brady’s team coughed the ball up 23 times, while only managing 21 assists as a counter.

The Herd are third last in the G League in turnovers per game at 20.1, and fourth from bottom in assist to turnover ratio at 1.03.

The Herd have the requisite talent to beat any team at the G League level, but if they want to remain among the league’s elite throughout the season, they’re going to have to get a handle on their turnover problems.
