Positive takeaway

With a lineup that would have been largely unfamiliar to the group, missing the two stars who had led the team successfully up to this point in the season, it would have been very easy for the Wisconsin Herd to roll over early in the third quarter.

The night after losing by 42 points, the Herd opened the second half by giving up an 8-0 run and falling 20 points behind overall.

Without Xavier Munford or James Young, it may have been fair to question whether Wisconsin even had sufficient firepower to pull themselves back into the game. Regardless, Jordan Brady’s team certainly showed resolve.

Although the game would get away from them again, there were real signs of encouragement in how the Herd managed to focus on fundamentals and unleash a 28-10 run of their own that cut the lead to as little as two points in the closing seconds of the third quarter.

Personnel changes will leave the Herd facing a variety of new questions in the coming weeks, but the squad’s character certainly shouldn’t be called into question.
